Rebels to Host Cornell and No. 9 Baylor this Weekend

OXFORD, Miss.
– Coming off a win against three-time NCAA Champion Virginia at the ITA Kick-Off, the Ole Miss men’s tennis team returns home to host Cornell and No. 9 Baylor this weekend at the Ole Miss Indoor Tennis Center. 

The Rebels will welcome Cornell Friday at 2 p.m. and then host Baylor Super Bowl Sunday at 11 a.m. Admission to both matches is free.

Promotions…
Friday will be Filip Kraljevic Poster Day, and fans can pick up a poster of the junior.  Sunday, fans will enjoy free breakfast before the Baylor match and get a free poster of senior Grey Hamilton.

Last time out…
Ole Miss split a pair of matches at the ITA Kick-Off falling to No. 23 Columbia 4-1 and then topping three-time defending NCAA Champion Virginia 4-1. The Rebels won the doubles point both days, but against the Lions, dug too big of a hole to overcome in singles. They rebounded on Sunday picking up the doubles and singles wins from Grey Hamilton, Cotter Wilson and the clincher from Gustav Hansson

Rankings the Rebels…
The Rebels are receiving votes in the USTA top 25 poll. Four Rebels are ranked in the singles rankings led by No. 14 Tim Sandkaulen. Gustav Hansson is ranked No. 32, Zvonimir Babic is ranked No. 69 and Filip Kraljevic is ranked No. 86. 

Scouting Cornell…
Cornell reached new heights in 2017 earning the program’s first ever NCAA tournament victory after capturing the Ivy League title – just the second in program history. At the helm of Cornell's rise is Silviu Tanasoiu, who returns for his seventh season as head coach. He was named the Ivy League Coach of the Year in 2017 after guiding the Big Red to a 22-4 record and a final national ranking of 26th. Cornell opened the 2018 season with a 6-1 win at home against Wichita State.

Rebels vs. Big Red…
This will be the first ever meeting between the two teams.

Scouting Baylor…
Baylor (4-0) comes into the weekend at No. 9 in the latest Oracle/ITA Rankings after going 2-0 at the ITA Kick-Off with wins against UNLV and No. 21 Florida State. The Bears are led by No. 11 ranked Johannes Schretter, who is 14-6 overall, 2-0 at No. 1 singles. Sophomore Bjoern Peterson is ranked No. 64. Schretter teams with Will Little for a No. 2 ranking in doubles.

Rebels vs. Bears…
Sunday will be the eighth meeting between Ole Miss and Baylor. The Rebels lead the series 4-3 after a thrilling 4-3 win in Waco in 2016.
