Tim Sandkaulen Named SEC Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Ole Miss men's tennis sophomore Tim Sandkaulen has been named the SEC Player of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.

This marks the first weekly honor for Sandkaulen. He Went 4-0 in doubles and singles to help lead the Rebels to a 2-0 weekend, including a 4-3 win against No. 9 Baylor. 

Sandkaulen won his match at No. 2 singles against Cornell to give the Rebels the lead for good after they had dropped the doubles point. He teamed with Fabian Fallert to defeat the No. 2 ranked team in the nation at No. 1 doubles to clinch the point against Baylor, which proved to be the difference. Sandkaulen tied the match after Baylor had taken the lead, with a 6-4, 6-2 win against 64th-ranked Bjoern Petersen at No. 2 singles. He improved to 14-4 overall and 5-1 in dual matches. He is now 8-1 overall with Fallert and 6-0 at No. 1 doubles.

After their perfect weekend the Rebels (7-1) earned a ranking of No. 21 in the USTA top 25 and they are receiving votes in the ITA Rankings. 

In addition to the team rankings, the first individual rankings of 2018 were announced. Sandkaulen is ranked No. 16 in singles and teams with Fallert for a No. 15 ranking. Senior Gustav Hansson is ranked No. 20 in singles and also ranked No. 60 in doubles with Zvonimir Babic. Babic is also ranked No. 21 with Filip Kraljevic.

The Rebels are on the road this week for a pair of matches against Princeton (Feb. 9) at the Chatham Club in Chatham, New Jersey and then at No. 14 Columbia.
