Men’s Tennis on the Road this Weekend

OXFORD, Miss. –
After gaining a split on the opening weekend of Southeastern Conference play, the Ole Miss men’s tennis team heads east this weekend for a pair of league road matches at Vanderbilt and Kentucky.

The Rebels will face No. 17 Vanderbilt Friday at 4 p.m. at the Currey Tennis Center before traveling to Lexington for a Noon showdown against Kentucky Sunday.

Last Time Out…
The Rebels (9-3, 1-1) split their matches last weekend falling to then-No. 7 Texas A&M and then bouncing back to down LSU 4-1. Against LSU, the Rebels won the doubles point and then picked up straight set wins from Grey Hamilton, Filip Kraljevic and Fabian Fallert

Scouting Vanderbilt…
Vanderbilt comes into the match 11-2 overall and 1-0 in the SEC. They are coming off a 4-3 win at Alabama in their SEC opener. 

Rebels vs. Commodores…
Ole Miss has won five straight against Vanderbilt including a 7-0 win in Oxford last year. The last time the two teams met in Nashville (2016), the Rebels won 5-2. The Commodores are led by Danny Valent, who owns a 7-3 record this spring, including 4-3 at No. 1 singles. Cameron Klinger is ranked No. 57 with a 6-0 record at No. 2 singles. 

Scouting Kentucky…
Kentucky enters the weekend 8-4 and 1-0 in the SEC after a 4-0 win against Alabama last weekend. The Wildcats are led by Ryo Matsumura, who is ranked No. 49 in the nation and is 8-1 this season.

Rebels vs. Wildcats…
The Rebels have won seven of the last eight against Kentucky including a 4-2 win on Senior Day last year in Oxford. The last time the two teams met in Lexington, the Wildcats escaped with a 4-3 win.   

Rebels in the Rankings…
In this week’s Oracle/ITA Rankings, the Rebels are ranked No. 32, and in the latest USTA Top 25, the Rebels are ranked No. 22.  The ITA also released the latest individual rankings. Tim Sandkaulen is ranked No. 19 in singles and No. 15 in doubles with Fabian Fallert. Gustav Hansson is ranked No. 48 and Filip Kraljevic is ranked No. 103 in singles and teams with Zvonimir Babic for a No. 28 ranking in doubles.
