OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss men's tennis player Nik Scholtz picked up another honor this season on Monday, earning the ITA Southern Region Rookie of the Year Award.
Scholtz, a native of Caledon, South Africa, was named SEC Freshman of the Year earlier this year. He is currently ranked No. 14 in the nation in singles and No. 13 in doubles and is the second highest ranked freshman in the nation.
"This is a great honor for Nik. He has had a great year playing No. 1 singles in the toughest conference in the nation and has been instrumental in helping lead us back to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen," head coach Billy Chadwick said.
Scholtz helped lead the Rebels to their 16th NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance Sunday, winning a huge match at No. 1 doubles with Jonas Lutjen, which helped the Rebels secure the doubles point in a 4-2 win over Michigan.
The Rebels will face the No. 4 seed, UCLA, in the NCAA Final 16 Friday at 11 a.m. CT at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
