Hutcheson Named To SEC Community Service Team Second-Straight Year Honored By SEC
May 7, 2012
OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss senior outfielder Amanda Hutcheson has been named to the Southeastern Conference Softball Community Service Team for her off-the-field work, the league office announced on Monday. This is the second-straight year Hutcheson has been honored by the conference for her work in the community.
A Brad Davis SEC Community Service Postgraduate Scholarship female finalist, Hutcheson has been heavily involved in the Oxford and Ole Miss communities for the past four years. She has participated in “Reading with the Rebels” and “National Student-Athlete Day” activities with Oxford-area elementary students.
A native of Loganville, Ga., Hutcheson helped organize “Rebel Reruns,” which collected shoes for youth in Haiti and Kenya this past year. She also participated in the “SEC Together We CAN Food Drive”to gather food for needy families in the Oxford area.
She helped organize “Kids Take Over The Park Day” in support of Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital for the Rebels’ April 14 game against MSU. Children volunteered for various jobs around the ballpark, including bat boy, cheerleader and field crew, and fans donated toys and items of need for the children of Le Bonheur. In addition, Hutcheson participated in “Move Mississippi” to promote an active lifestyle to elementary school children.
In the classroom, Hutcheson received the University’s Taylor Medal, the highest academic honor an Ole Miss student can receive. She is also a Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District nominee and has been named to the UMAA Honor Roll, the SEC Honor Roll and the University’s Chancellor’s List.
The Southeastern Conference sponsors community service teams for all 20 league-sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his or her community in superior service efforts.
