OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss baseball player Brady Bramlett was selected to represent the Southeastern Conference as a member of the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Bramlett’s appointment began on July 1 and is a two-year commitment with the option for re-election if eligible.

"I'm not only thrilled, but blessed and honored to be selected by the NCAA to represent the Southeastern Conference on the Division I National SAAC,” said Bramlett. “This wouldn't have happened without such a great support staff at Ole Miss such as Derek Cowherd, Sheila Padgett, and Laura Webb for presenting me with this opportunity. I am looking forward to working with each SAAC within the SEC, and other conferences as well, to personify what it means to be a student-athlete on and off the field."

Bramlett joins student-athletes from each of the 32 Division I conferences. He was selected from a pool of three nominees from each of the represented conferences.  The Division I SAAC reports directly to the Division I Leadership Council, and one SAAC member participates in each meeting of the Leadership Council.  Additionally, SAAC members are represented on cabinets and committees within the Division I governance structure.  It is through these mechanisms that NCAA Division I student-athletes offer input and assist in shaping the proposed legislation by which their division is governed.

Senior Associate Athletic Director for Academic Support, Derek Cowherd speaks very highly of Bramlett and his leadership qualities.

“Brady Bramlett exemplifies all that we are trying to accomplish at the University of Mississippi and what all of our colleagues across the nation are trying to do for their student-athletes -- find their passion, grow their leadership abilities, and expose them to great opportunities such as the National NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC),” said Cowherd.  “It is such an honor for Brady to hold one of the leadership positions out of the nearly 420,000 student-athletes competing at the NCAA collegiate level.  We have a very bright, hungry and talented student-athlete population who should represent all student-athletes nationally on an annual basis.  This is just the beginning of what our student-athletes can do."

Currently, Bramlett and his NCAA SAAC colleagues have been discussing the Ed O’Bannon likeness case and have issued a statement and prepared a document to educate their fellow student-athletes on the facts of the case as well as the NCAA’s standing on the issue. You can find those documents HERE.

NCAA Division I SAAC Mission
The mission of the Division I SAAC is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete well-being and fostering a positive student-athlete image.  Specifically, Division I SAAC fulfills its mission by soliciting student-athlete responses to proposed NCAA legislation, reviewing and commenting on the governance structure, suggesting potential NCAA legislation and actively participating in the administrative process of athletics programs and the NCAA.  Division I SAAC members accept the responsibility of representing and participating on behalf of thousands of Division I student-athletes and are further entrusted with keeping both campus and conference committees educated on the relevant issues affecting Division I.

Ole Miss Rebel Ready Mission
The mission of Ole Miss’ Rebel Ready Program is to challenge the student-athletes to be lifelong learners while pursuing continuous improvement academically, relationally, socially, personally, and professionally during and beyond their careers as student-athletes.

Rebel Ready is the hub for a wide range of Ole Miss Athletics sponsored programs designed to meet the needs of student-athletes and their families. It is divided into six areas: Student-Athlete Assistance Services, Career Development, Continuing Education, Community Outreach, Financial Education and Career Transition.
