OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss athletic department welcomed students and staff from Oxford's Scott Center for an Ole Miss Spirit Day at the Manning Center last Friday (Sept. 20).

The Ole Miss spirit squads were on hand along with student-athletes from the football, baseball and men's basketball teams, to help the Scott Center students get into the Ole Miss spirit. The students were able to take a tour of the Manning Center and mixed and mingled with student- athletes and athletic department staff.

"It was such an awesome rewarding experience to see the smiles on the children's faces when our administration and student-athletes took time to stop by and play with the children," said Laura Webb, who helped plan the event. "We have an outstanding group of coaches, administration and student-athletes and they showed that even more on Friday.  Thank you to everyone that made the event such a success."

Football player, DT Shackelford echoed Webb's sentiments about the event.

"My favorite quote is 'Life is 10% of what happens to you and 90% of how you react to it.' You can't always control what happens to you but you can control your reaction to the situation. It was a blessing to see many of those kids still wear a smile despite their circumstances."

Head baseball coach Mike Bianco and his team also participated in the event.

"One of the privileges I receive as being a coach at Ole Miss is getting the opportunity to spend time with wonderful people," said Bianco. "Some of my players and I had one of those experiences last week meeting and sharing some time with the great kids of the Scott Center."
