AUBURN, Ala. – After the Rebels led by as many as 13 during the game, the Ole Miss women’s basketball team saw the Auburn Tigers take their first lead of the game with 1:51 remaining as the Tigers came from behind to post the 46-43 win.
With the loss, Ole Miss ended the regular season 12-17 (2-14 SEC) while Auburn improved to 13-16 (4-11 SEC). Ole Miss will be the No. 12 seed in this week’s SEC Tournament.
Ole Miss jumped out to a 15-4 lead with 11:30 remaining in the half as the Rebels held Auburn to 1-for-6 shooting from the floor to start the game. The Tigers cut the lead to seven, 20-13, with 5:04 left in the half.
At the half, Ole Miss lead 24-17. McFarland led the Rebels with eight points while Byrd and Tia Faleru each recorded seven. Faleru and McCray each added six boards. Ole Miss shot 42.3 percent from the floor (11-26) while Auburn shot 26.1 percent (6-23).
In the second half, the Tigers cut the Rebels’ lead to two before tying the game at 30-30 with 12:32 to play. Ole Miss used a 7-2 run and pushed its lead back up to six, 37-31, with 8:15 remaining.
The Rebels shot 41.9 percent from the floor for the game (16-53) while The Tigers shot 30.2 percent (18-43).
The Tigers would cut the Rebels’ lead to one, 43-42, with 2:45 to play
Ole Miss will start play in the 2012 SEC Tournament on March 1 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn.
