CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Ole Miss women's basketball team opened its six-game road trip Tuesday night with a 67-55 loss at Cleveland State.
With the loss, Ole Miss fell to 6-3 on the year while Cleveland State improved to 6-4.
Tia Faleru led Ole Miss with 14 points followed by Gracie Frizzell with 11 and Valencia McFarland added nine. Faleru has scored in double figures in the last three games.
Courtney Marbra pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds, the most by an Ole Miss player since Nov. 26, 2011.
For the game, Ole Miss shot 27.3 percent from the floor (21-77) while Cleveland State shot 43.8 percent (21-48).
Cleveland State got off to a quick start with a 15-0 lead nearly six minutes into the game. Ole Miss responded with a 12-2 run capped by a three from Gracie Frizzell to cut the lead to17-12 with 9:10 left in the half.
The Vikings pushed their lead back to double digits right before the half and they went into halftime leading, 30-19.
McFarland led the Rebels at the break with seven points while Faleru added six. Marbra had a team-best five rebounds. As a team, Ole Miss shot 23.3 percent (7-30) from the floor while Cleveland State shot 47.8 percent (11-23).
The Vikings pushed their lead back to 15 early in the second half before the Rebels cut the lead to nine on a three from Maggie McFerrin, 39-30, with 14:20 to play.
The Rebels cut the lead to 10, 57-47, after a 10-2 run with 6:49 to play but the Vikings went up 65-49 with 3:36 remaining.
Ole Miss will travel to New York to play two games in Hofstra's New York Life Holiday Invitational, Dec. 21-22. The Rebels will play host Hofstra Friday at 6 p.m. CT followed by a game against Northwestern State on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT.
