Ole Miss Opens Season with 92-67 Victory over Grambling
In front of a crowd of 5.696, including a number of area school kids, the Ole Miss women's basketball team picked up a 92-67 win over Grambling State to open the 2014-15 season. The crowd was the second largest on hand to watch an Ole Miss women's basketball game.

The Ole Miss women's basketball team earned its second postseason bid in the last four years with a bid to the WNIT. Ole Miss will take on Grambling in the first round on Thursday at 6 pm at The Pavilion at Ole Miss.

1. The Ole Miss women's basketball team fell in the second round of the SEC Tournament to No. 7 seed LSU, 67-49. Taylor Manuel led the way with 19 points while Madinah Muhammad was in double figures for the 18th time with 12 points while Shandricka Sessom added eight rebounds. Ole Miss fell to 17-13 on the season

2. Shandricka Sessom recorded her 1,000th career point and tallied her fourth straight game in double figures with a team-best 13 points in the regular-season finale against Texas A&M. Sessom joins Erika Sisk as Rebels to score their 1,000th point this season and Sessom is the first to do it as a junior since Valencia McFarland in 2012-13.

3. Taylor Manuel's 19 points vs. LSU marked her second consecutive game in double figures and her fourth game in double figures in the last six games. Manuel has reached double figures in 11 games and is averaging 10.8 points per game over the last six contests.

4. The Rebels are making their second postseason appearance in the Insell era after a 2014-15 third round appearance in the WNIT. Ole Miss is 4-6 in the postseason WNIT with six appearances and has a 3-0 record in games played in Oxford.

5. This will be the seventh meeting between Ole Miss and Grambling with Ole Miss owning a 6-0 record. The last time the teams met was in the 2014-15 season opener with Ole Miss taking a 92-67 win over the Lady Tigers. This will be the first meeting between the teams in postseason action.

-Thursday's meeting will be the seventh meeting between the teams with the Rebels owning a 6-0 record. The teams last met in 2014-15 with Ole Miss taking a 92-67 win in Oxford. This will be the first meeting between the teams in the postseason and the first meeting for Ole Miss in the postseason against a team from the SWAC. 

-The teams have four opponents in common this season in Louisiana-Monroe, Southeastern La., Jackson State and Mississippi Valley State.

-There is another Ole Miss-Grambling connection this one on the football field. Former Ole Miss quarterback Devante Kincade transferred from Ole Miss and is the starting quarterback at Grambling. The Dallas, Texas native led the Tigers to the SWAC Championship this season.

A Win Would
-Give Ole Miss its 18th win of the season -- moving the Rebels one win away from 19 wins and two wins away from 20 wins. Ole Miss is seeking its first 20-win season since 2006-07.  

-Give Ole Miss its third postseason win in the Insell era. Ole Miss has defeated UT-Martin and Georgia Tech in postseason action in 2014-15.

Rebels By The Numbers
2- Number of Ole Miss players to reach the 1,000-point milestone this season. Shandricka Sessom earned her 1,000th career point against Texas A&M while Erika Sisk earned her 1,000th career point against Jackson State in the non-conference slate.  

7- Number of appearances Ole Miss has made in the postseason WNIT. Ole Miss is 4-6 in the postseason tournament and is making its second trip under head coach Matt Insell.

12-Number of points Madinah Muhammad had against LSU in the SEC Tournament. Muhammad has reached double figures in 18 games this season -- the second most for an Ole Miss player behind Shandricka Sessom's 23 games in double figures.

26-Number of points Madinah Muhammad had against Missouri on Feb. 23. The 26 points are a career high for the Chicago native and marked her seventh 20-point outing in 2016-17.

1,007- Number of points career points Shandricka Sessom currently has. Sessom became Ole Miss' 28th 1,000 point scorer with 13 points against Texas A&M in the regular season finale on Feb. 26 and the first junior to hit the mark since Valenica McFarland in 2012-13.

Scouting Grambling
Grambling enters the postseason WNIT with an 18-14 record and coming off a 70-66 loss to Texas Southern in the SWAC Championship on March 11. The Lady Tigers are the SWAC's automatic bid after winning the league's regular season title and have won 13 of their last 15 games Shakyla Hill leads the Lady Tigers with 15.1 points per game and is joined in double figures by Jazmin Boyd and with 11.8 points per game and Monisha Neal who is averaging 10.9 points per game. Hill also leads the way on the glass with 7.9 boards per game while Neal is contributing 6.1 rebounds per game. As a team, they are averaging 65.2 points per game and 36.8 rebounds per game.  

About Ole Miss
Ole Miss enters the WNIT with a 17-13 record after falling to LSU, 67-49 in the SEC Tournament on March 2. Shandricka Sessom and Madinah Muhammad continue to lead Ole Miss from the floor. Muhammad leads the way with 13.3 points per game while Sessom isn't far behind with 12.5 points per game. A duo leads Ole Miss on the glass as Shandricka Sessom is averaging 6.0 rebounds per game while Joseph is grabbing 5.2 boards per game. Sessom has posted four double-doubles on the season, most recently recording 14 points and 11 rebounds against Tennessee, while Joseph tallied her second career double-double with 15 points and a career-best 13 rebounds against the Razorbacks. Shelby Gibson is Ole Miss' top scoring freshman with 6.4 points per game.

With a win, Ole Miss will play the winner of Tulane and UT-Arlington, who are playing in first round action on Thursday in New Orleans. Should Ole Miss lose they will close the 2016-17 season with a 17-14 record.
