OXFORD, Miss. –Ole Miss head women’s basketball coach Matt Insell announced the addition of Sarah Porter (San Diego, Calif./Horizon Christian Academy) to the Ole Miss women’s basketball team on Wednesday (May 14).
Porter becomes the seventh member of Ole Miss’ 2014-15 freshmen class joining Kelsey Briggs (Memphis, Tenn./Overton), Kiara Golden (Olive Branch, Miss./Center Hill), A’Queen Hayes (Horn Lake, Miss./Horn Lake), Shandricka Sessom (Byhalia, Miss./Byhalia), Erika Sisk (Oxford, Miss./Murray State/Oxford) and Toree Thompson (Broken Arrow, Okla./Broken Arrow).
“This is a great day for Ole Miss women’s basketball,” said Insell. “Signing a player like Sarah Porter to our recruiting class is another huge step in our process. Her ability to score the basketball from the perimeter, and her length defensively makes her a perfect fit for our up-tempo style of play. I am really excited about her future and even more excited about the future of Ole Miss women’s basketball with the addition of Sarah Porter.”
Porter, a 5-9 guard, makes the journey to Ole Miss from Horizon Christian Academy in San Diego, Calif. Porter, who originally signed with Fresno State, led her team to two CIF San Diego championships and the Southern California regional finals. For her efforts, Porter was a first team Max Preps and Cal-Hi Sports D5 All-State selection. A first team All-San Diego Coastal South League and San Diego County CIF selection, she was one of the top 50 juniors in California and has earned San Diego Union Tribune Athlete of the Week and Month. Following her senior year, she was named to the San Diego County Senior All-Star team. In 2013, she was a second-team all-league selection, earned all-county academic team honors and received the CIF Sportsmanship Award.
