OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss head coach Matt Insell announced the addition of Brittany Hudson as assistant coach on Tuesday (May 27). Hudson has three years of collegiate coaching experience, most recently serving as an assistant coach at Mississippi State.

“I am extremely excited about having Brittany Hudson join our staff as an assistant coach,” said Insell.  “Brittany is one of the top recruiters in the country and the experience she has recruiting in the SEC, coupled with her ability to recruit the top players in the country made her a ‘must hire” in my eyes.”

Hudson is widely regarded as an up-and-comer in the coaching ranks and is a dynamic recruiter. Hudson most recently helped the Bulldogs to a top 100 recruiting class, including signing Mississippi girl’s basketball all-time scoring leader Victoria Vivians.

“It speaks volumes for the direction our program is heading when you have an assistant coach from another SEC school decide to leave and join your program,” said Insell. “This is a great day for Ole Miss basketball.”

A 2008 Georgia State graduate, Hudson spent two years on head Coach Vic Schafer’s staff leading the Bulldogs to a postseason appearance in 2014, its first since a run to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2009-10.

“I am honored to work for such a great institution and a head coach that I have a great relationship with,” said Hudson. “I believe in Coach Insell's vision and couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the Ole Miss women's basketball family.  Coach Insell is creating a championship culture with honesty, hard work and discipline and I am ecstatic to be a part of a staff that believes in these winning tools.  With his guidance, the players and this program will reach new heights. I am eager to get the ball rolling and start working with our players. Hotty Toddy!”

Prior to her stint at Mississippi State, Hudson spent a season at Daytona State College in her hometown of Daytona Beach, Fla. She worked alongside 2012 Mid-Florida Coach of the Year Cal Cochran and helped nine players earn FCSAA All-Conference honors, including a league-best four first-team selections.

Hudson also spent time at Morehead State with current Ole Miss Director of Operations, Eric White. Hudson served at the Eagles’ Director of Operations during the 2010-11 season. Morehead State advanced to the semifinals of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament and a 21-10 record that season.

The Florida native has an extensive AAU background, serving as a coach with the prestigious Florida-based Essence Girls basketball program. In addition to her coaching duties, she arranged tournament travel and served as site director for numerous tournaments.

Hudson played her collegiate basketball at Georgia State and Valdosta State. With the Panther’s, Hudson scored 215 points and averaged 3.0 rebounds per game in 70 games. She also led her team to the Atlantic Sun Championship game. In her final season at Valdosta State, she averaged 11.4 points and was an All-Gulf South Conference selection while leading her team to the NCAA Division II South Regional.

Hudson prepped one season at Mainland High School before leading Florida A&M University High School, leading them to their first state championship.
