Throughout the summer months members of the Ole Miss women's basketball team will share their thoughts on a host of ideas with our weekly feature "Roll Call with the Rebels" This week, rising senior Danielle McCray sits down with OleMissSports.com
Danielle McCray enters her senior season after a junior year which saw her emerge as Ole Miss’ fourth-leading scorer with 6.5 points per game and the second-leading rebounder with 5.0 rebounds per game. McCray tallied eight games in double digits as a junior and two games with double-figure rebounds including double-doubles against Baylor and Georgia. An aspiring Disney Imagineer, McCray answers a few questions for this week’s Rebel Roll Call.
Q: What are you most looking forward to as you head into your senior year? McCray: I am looking forward to everyone getting better and going out with a bang. I feel like we are all working so hard and its time that it all comes into fruition.
Q: What are some of the ways that you feel you have improved as a player under Coach Insell and his staff? McCray: I feel like my confidence has improved majorly under Coach Insell. Coach Insell has always given me the green light to just go all out and play my game with as much energy as possible and he has never backed away from that which has empowered me.
Q: If you weren’t playing basketball what other sport or activity would you be doing? McCray: If I weren’t playing basketball, I would probably be working on my art. Just trying to master the skills of graphic design so that I can work in that field some day.
Q: What is something that you miss from West Palm Beach that you wish you had here in Oxford? McCray: I miss going to the beach. I’m from Florida and beaches are the number one spot to be to just relax.
Q: What is your biggest fear? McCray: My biggest fear is being eaten by an alligator. In West Palm Beach, there are a lot of times when alligators are caught walking in civilian areas, like children’s parks, and animal control has to come and get them. Well, there is a park right behind my house and I’m always afraid that an alligator is going to eat me or something!
