Abby Newton Leads Ole Miss On Day One

OXFORD, Miss. – Freshman Abby Newton fired a 1-over 73 to lead the Ole Miss women’s golf team on day one of the M&F Bank Rebel Intercollegiate hosted by the Rebels at the Ole Miss Golf Course.

Coastal Carolina leads the field after the first round, firing a 4-under 284 which is tied for the second lowest round of play in Ole Miss’ home tournament history. Three golfers, Baylor’s Hayley Davis, East Tennessee State’s Chloe Garner and Tulane’s Madison Opfer, each carded a 67 on the day, tying Ole Miss’ home tournament record for lowest round.

The Rebels are in tenth place in the 18-team tournament after one round of play, carding a 13-over 301. Newton recorded four birdies on the day and sits in a tie for 17th place.

Alison Hovatter carded a 2-over 74 to finish the day in a tie for 26th while Ericka Schneider turned in a 5-over 77 and ended the day in a tie for 53rdStani Schiavone also finished the day in a tie for 53rd after carding a 5-over 77. Kathryn Fowler turned in a 6-over 78 and sits in a tie for 65th.

Taelor Rubin, who was competing as an individual, carded a 4-over 76 to finish the day in a tie for 43rd place while Katie Voll, also competing as an individual, carded a five-over 77 and sits in a tie for 53rd after round one.
