BIRMINGHAM – The Ole Miss women’s golf team closed out the 2014 SEC Championships in 14th place with a three-day score of 925 after a final round of 307. The Rebels had three players score 4-over par 76 in final round action.

Vanderbilt won the 2014 SEC Championship with a score of 879 with the Commodores’ Simin Feng winning medalist honors with a final round of 6-under par 66.

Ole Miss, who was paired with Mississippi State in the final round, was +19 on the day and had five birdies on the round. Ole Miss teed off from the 10th hole fro the third consecutive day and got a strong start from Alison Hovatter. The Alabama native for the second straight day recorded a birdie to open the round.

Following a strong second round, Hovatter played well on Sunday and was 1-under through her first nine holes, including birdies on No. 10 and No. 17, both par 3’s.

Stani Schiavone, Abby Newton and Taelor Rubin were 3-over through the first nine holes. Newton as able to close the tournament strong, going par on the front nine, with the exception of a bogey on No. 7. Maria Toennessen also played well though her second nine holes and posted back-to-back birdies on holes No. 6 and 7, closing the round with a 4-over par 76.

Rubin was 3-over on her fist nine holes, but struggled a little in the second nine holes. The North Carolina native closed with a 11-over par 83. Schiavone closed the tournament tied for No. 64 with a final round score of 79.

Ole Miss will wait and see if they are selected for an NCAA Regional. That will be announced Monday, April 28. The announcement will take place during Golf Centreal on the Golf Channel from 5-6 p.m. (CT). The show will also be streamed live on the Golf Channell website.
