AUBURN, Ala. – Abby Newton and Stani Schiavone each carded a 2-over 74 for the Ole Miss women’s golf team on day one of the NCAA East Regional hosted by Auburn University at the Auburn University Club.

As a team, Ole Miss is in a tie for 12th in the 24-team field after one round, carding an 11-over 299 in today’s opening round. Alabama leads the field after day one, firing an 11-under 277. The 24-team field is filled with ranked teams as 10 of the teams are ranked in the top-30.

The Rebels’ appearance in this year’s NCAA Regional marks the program’s fifth-consecutive appearance and ninth in program history.

"We played more aggressively today than we have in the last few tournaments," head coach Michele Drinkard said. "We need to continue in the morning with the same mindset and go after it."

Ericka Schneider carded a 3-over 75 in the first round while Taelor Rubin turned in a 4-over 76. Alison Hovatter carded a 7-over 79.

In Friday’s second round, Ole Miss will tee off from tee No. 10 starting at 8:25 a.m.

Three regional tournaments are being conducted May 9-11 to determine the championships field. Regional tournaments are considered preliminary rounds of NCAA championships competition, and all national championships policies apply.

A total of 378 participants have been selected for regional competition. Of these players, 126 will advance to the championships finals. Eight teams and two individuals will advance from each regional.

The championships finals will be held May 21-24 at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga., and will be hosted by Georgia.
