CHARLESTON, S.C. - Sophomore Alison Hovatter continues to lead the Ole Miss women's golf team at the Cougar Classic in South Carolina. After firing a 1-over 73 on Sunday, Hovatter shot her second consecutive round of 73 at Yeamans Hall. She leads the Rebels with a two-day score of 146 and is tied for 29th place heading into Tuesday's final round.

"I really like the way Alison is playing right now," said head coach Michele Drinkard. She is playing fearlessly and enjoying competing." 

As a team, the Rebels are sitting in 14th place with a two-day score of 602 after Monday's round of 297, moving up four spots from Sunday's 19th place finish. Ole Miss carded 12 birdies on the afternoon and as a group saw their scores improve from Sunday's round.

"I saw improvement today," said Drinkard." We were more prepared and had better focus over the first round. We still have a tendency to put too many expectations on a shot than necessary and it caught up to us on our second nine today." 

Stani Schiavone and Abby Newton rebounded in the second round. Schiavone, who shot a 5-over 77 in the first round, responded with a round of 74 at just 2-over par and was 1-under at the turn. Newton also stepped things up in the second round, shooting a 2-over 74 and was even on the front nine, while posting three birdies on the day.

"Stani and Abby also scored better today, said Drinkard." But more is yet to be scene from this pair." 

 Kathryn Fowler posted a round of 76 for 4-over par 72, while Taelor Rubin carded a 6-over 78. 

Clemson leads the field and is sitting at 9-under, which gives them a six stroke lead over Mississippi State who is in second place at 3-under. Mississippi State's Ally McDonald and Clemson's Sloan Shanahan are tied for the individual lead at 6-under.

 Competition concludes on Tuesday and fans can follow all the action at the Cougar Classic at Golf Stat. Tuesday's round will be a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. (CT).
