VAIL, Colo. – Just two tournaments into the season, the Ole Miss women’s golf team recorded its first top-10 finish of the year, finishing 6th out of 18 teams at the Golfweek Conference Challenge at the Red Sky Golf Club in Vail, Colo.
For the three day tournament, the Rebels shot an 899 (300-296-303). Individually, the team was led by seniors Haley Sanders and Ericka Schneider. Sanders fired a 1-over 73 in the final round to end the tournament with a 4-over 220 (73-74-73). Schneider carded a 4-over 76 today and ended the tournament with a 5-over 221 (75-70-76).
“This was a good tournament for us this week,” head coach Michele Drinkard said. “Our energy was really positive, and the team fed well off of each other. Although we didn't finish the way we would have liked, we feel like this will lead us well into the rest of the fall. We see what we can improve on, and we will work very hard to get better.”
Pepperdine won the tournament, carding a 4-under 860 (286-289-285) while Demi Runas from UC Davis was the tournament’s top individual finisher carding a 7-under 209 (71-67-71).
Abby Newton carded a 4-over 76 in the final round while Alison Hovatter carded a 6-over 78. Kathryn Fowler ended the round with an 8-over 80.
