WILMINGTON, NC – Senior Ericka Schneider fired a 1-over 73 today to lead the Ole Miss women’s golf team on the first day of the Landfall Classic hosted by UNC Wilmington at Country Club of Landfall Jack Nicklaus Course.

As a team, Ole Miss is in 15th place (21-over, 309) in the 17-team field after one round.  No. 16 Oklahoma State leads the field with a 4-over 296 while individually, Kimberly Kaufman from Texas Tech leads with a 5-under 67.

“Score doesn't always show how hard a team worked and that is the case today” head coach Michele Drinkard said. “I was pleased with our energy and attitude on the course and saw a lot of good shots. With windy conditions, we need to make a better commitment to every shot and then convert more pars.

Saturday has the possibility of being very windy from Hurricane Sandy out in the Atlantic with bands of rains. We need to learn from our experiences today and apply them tomorrow.”

Haley Sanders carded 6-over 78 while Taelor Rubin and Alison Hovatter each carded a 7-over 79. Abby Newton turned in an 8-over 80 while Kathryn Fowler, who is competing as an individual, ended the day with a 5-over 77.

Play will continue tomorrow and live scoring will be available on golfstat.com. Follow the Ole Miss women’s golf team on Twitter @OleMissWGolf and on Facebook at Facebook.com/OleMissWGolf.
