REBELOG: Haley Millsap Dishes On Weather And First Spring Tournament Team In Orlando For UCF Challenge
A few Rebels got some sledding in before heading off to Orlando.
Feb. 12, 2011
OleMissSports.com's Rebelogs provide fans with a look inside the life of Ole Miss student-athletes. Junior Haley Millsap blogs about the Rebels spring opener in Orlando, Fla.
Hello,
Oxford weather report Feb. 11, 2011: 7 degrees Fahrenheit at 7 a.m........7 degrees, yes! The last time it was 7 degrees in Orlando, Fla. was in well, never. The record low for Orlando, Fla. is 19 degrees which was in 1985. I thought I went to school in the south.
I still consider The University of Mississippi being in the south, but I am happy to be kicking off the 2011 Spring season even further south. We are competing in Orlando this week in the UCF Challenge. As Florida is called the "sunshine state", that is exactly what we will be seeing this week. Our weather report is calling for the temperatures to be in the upper 60's and lower 70's. Hard to beat in February!
We have had some weather complications during our preparation for this tournament, but that was a minor obstacle for us. We found ways to put in some work. We modified our schedules so we could work on our wedge game in the indoor football facility, we made some swings on video, put some reps in with our putting stroke, and better yet we put on some layers, grabbed the hot hands, and got outside when we could. I do think the best preparation we had though was sledding down a hill on an air mattress...ah I am just kidding, although it was a fun time. Anyway, if I had to describe in three words where the team is right now, I would say we are refreshed, eager, and READY!
We are looking forward to getting on the course Saturday Feb. 12 for our practice round. It will a be new sight for us to see greens that are not covered with tarps. Our competition starts on Sunday and it will run through Tuesday Feb. 15. I do believe we will be bringing back the warm weather to Oxford, but until then we have some business to take care of!
