Newton SEC Freshman Of The Week Second League Honor For Newton

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss women's golfer Abby Newton was named SEC Freshman of the Week, the SEC announced Wednesday. This is the second honor for Newton this season, as she also earned the nod on Feb. 13.
Newton, a native of Katy, Texas, is currently leading Ole Miss at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invite in Honolulu. After 36 holes on Tuesday, Newton is tied for second out of the 93-golfer field. She fired a career-best 69 in the afternoon round which ties for the lowest round by an Ole Miss golfer this year.
Through two rounds, she carded a 1-under 143 (74-69) and moved from 14th place into a tie for second. The final round will teed off Wednesday at 1 p.m. CT.
