OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's golf team will continue their 2011-12 campaign with a three-day stop in Gainesville, Fla., as the Rebels take part in the SunTrust Gator Women's Invitational March 16-18.
The Rebels last participated in the Gator Women's Invitational in 2008, earning a fourth place finish.
This year's tournament features 17 teams, including six currently ranked inside the top 25: Alabama (No. 2), Auburn (No. 4), Georgia (No. 10), Duke (No. 11), Baylor (No. 14) and host Florida (No. 21). SEC foes Arkansas, Kentucky, and Mississippi State will also be competing.
"Since we are on spring break we chose to come to Gainesville a day earlier to play and practice as we prepare for The Gator," said Ole Miss head coach Michele Drinkard. "We have learned a lot from our first tournament, and everyone has worked really hard to get sharper. I feel we are ready to tee it up Friday and compete."
Haley Sanders continues to lead the Rebels, holding a 75.13 stroke average. The consistent junior has led Ole Miss in four of five tournaments this season and has earned a pair of top-20 finishes.
Senior Natalie Gleadall follows with a 75.47 stroke average. Gleadall earned a second place finish at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in the fall--her fourth career top-five finish and sixth in the top-20.
Fellow senior Haley Millsap brings additional experience to the Rebel lineup with six top-20 finishes in her career. The Pace, Fla., native carries a 76.40 stroke average for the season.
The Rebels will tee off Friday morning from the par-70 Mark Bostic Golf Course. Fans can follow along via live stats at www.OleMissSports.com. Also follow the Rebels on twitter at @OleMissWGolf and on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/OleMissWGolf
