Stani Schiavone Joins Ole Miss Women's Golf Just Completed Freshman Year At Baylor
June 1, 2012
OXFORD, Miss. – Stani Schiavone, who just completed her freshman year at Baylor, is transferring to Ole Miss Rebel head coach Michele Drinkard announced Thursday. Schiavone will be eligible to play immediately.
Schiavone, a native of Bangor, Pa., helped lead the Baylor to its second ever appearance in the NCAA Finals, carding a career-low 69 in the final round of the NCAA West Regional. She competed in nine of Baylor’s 11 tournaments and posted a season-best finish of fourth at the BancorpSouth Rebel Intercollegiate with an even-par 216.
“We recruited Stani very hard as a junior player, so we were thrilled when she made her commitment to transfer and join us this fall as a sophomore,” Drinkard said. “Stani has a lot of game and now also has the experience of winning three college events and competing in our National Championship. Our season didn’t end the way we had envisioned. We have a bit of a chip on our shoulders, which as a coach I really like. I look for this team to come roaring out of the gates in Charleston this fall.”
In junior golf, Schiavone posted 12 top-five finishes in American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) events, including a pair of second-place finishes at the 2007 Rhode Island Classic and 2008 Natural Resource Partners Bluegrass Junior.
A two-time United States Golf Association (USGA) Women’s Amateur Public Links qualifier in 2007 and 2010, she also qualified for the 2008 USGA Women’s Open Sectional and 2009 USGA Girls Junior Championship. Schiavone, who prepped at Bangor Area (Pa.) High School, was named to the AJGA HP Scholastic Junior All-American team in 2009 and 2010.
“I am really excited to play for coach Drinkard. I like all the girls on the team. I think they have a great team and a great future,” Schiavone said. “I love the tradition of Ole Miss. I am looking forward to getting there and working with the team and the coaches.”
