Throughout the summer OleMissSports.com will check in with current and former Rebels who are spending time on the links over the summer. Ole Miss will be represented at some of the top tournaments this summer. Take a look at the summer playing schedules below: 

Summer Updates:
June 3, 2014
Rising senior Stani Schiavone and rising junior Abby Newton both qualified for the 2014 USGA Women’s Amateur Public Links to be held July 14-19 at the Home Course in DuPont, Wash. Schiavone finished second at her sectional qualifier with a 2-over par 74, while Newton also qualified through a sectional qualifier.

Stani Schiavone placed tied for 14th at the Porter Cup held June 11-13 at the Niagara Falls Country Club. Schiavone fired a 6-over 219 with rounds of 71 and 72 to open the second annual Porter Cup. Schiavone’s opening round of 71 was one of the seven lowest rounds to open the competition. Brooke Henderson won the event with a three-day score of 8-under 205.

Alison Hovatter reached the round of 16 of the Alabama Women’s Amateur on June 18. The tournament, which was an all match play format, was held at the North River Yacht Club in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Hovatter was defeated by Susce Jordan in 20 holes. Hovatter is now in the consolation flight and after defeating Lea Green in the quarterfinals, 4 and 3, will take on Rebecca Chandler in the semifinals on June 19.

Rising senior Stani Schiavone participated n the 114th women’s Western Amateur Championship in Lancaster Pa., Schiavone reached Wednesday’s first round of match play. Schiavone (158) was knocked out of the competition by Princess Superal (146) from the Philippines, 5 and 4. Schiavone reached the match play with a score of 76 in Monday’s qualifying round and an 82 in Tuesday’s round, for a two round qualifying score of 158.

USGA Women’s Amateur Public Links
Rising senior Stani Schiavone and rising junior Abby Newton opened action at the 2014 USGA on Women’s Amateur Public Links on Monday (July 14) at the Home Course in Dupont, Wash. Both Rebels fired a 1-over par 73 in opening round action. Schiavone posted a second consecutive round of 73 on Tuesday, including a birdie and eight straight pars on the back nine.  Newton closed the day with a 74, which qualified both Ole Miss golfers for the match play portion of the tournament beginning on Wednesday.

Alison Hovatter opened action at the North-South Amateur on Tuesday as well. The tournament is being played at Pinehurst and goes through July 19.

The Ole Miss women’s golf team picked up its first summer tournament victory when rising junior Alison Hovatter won the Alabama Stroke Play Championship on July 25. Hovatter, who led throughout the tournament, won in dramatic fashion taking the title in a three-hole playoff with Alex Harrell, who plays collegiate golf at Auburn.

Rising junior Abby Newton began play at the Trans Amateur Championship on Monday (July 29). The tournament held at The Members Club of Woodcreek in Elgin, South Carolina. The championship runs through Aug. 1. In first round action on Tuesday, Newton fired a 5-over par 77.
