OXFORD, Miss. – Head women’s golf coach Michele Drinkard announced on Thursday (June 26) that Madisen Bentley will join the Ole Miss women’s golf team for the 2014-15 season. Bentley comes to Ole Miss after spending her freshman season at Portland State. Bentley joins Sofia Idoyaga as newcomers for the 2014-15 season.

“ I absolutely can’t wait to get our fall started with Madisen,” said Drinkard. “She is an experienced player that will add depth to our roster and will bring an endless amount of energy to the team.”

Bentley, a native of University Place, Washington, comes to Oxford after spending the 2013-14 season at Portland State. She competed in 10 events for the Vikings and compiled a 75.78 scoring average, ranking second best on the team and fourth best in school history. Bentley had her best finish of the year at the Big Sky Championship with a three-day score of 226 (75-76-75—226). She posted five rounds of par or better and only had six rounds all year of higher than 77. Additionally, Bentley set the freshman scoring record at Portland State.

She is an accomplished junior golfer as well. She was twice a medalist in Washington Junior Golf Association sub-District tournaments and placed third at the WJGA District tournament, while tying for fifth place at the WJGA state championship. Bentley also played in the US Women’s Open qualifier at Portland’s Waverley Country Club in 2013, shooting 83-78=161.

Bentley prepped at Life Christian Academy where she was a four-year letterwinner. She led her team to back-to-back state championships in 2010 and 2011 and earned both team and league Most Valuable Player accolades. Bentley also posted four top-10 finishes at the Washington 1A State Championship, including runner up honors as a senior.
