CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -
It was another successful year for the Ole Miss women's golf team not only on the links, but in the classroom, as four members of the team earned National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-American Scholar honors.
Rising senior Jillian Brodd, upcoming juniors Ashley Lance and Haley Millsap and sophomore Haley Sanders were among 331 Division I student-athletes named to the list. The Rebels tied with South Carolina for the most selections in the SEC.
"It is quite an honor to be named an NGCA All-Scholar," head coach Michele Drinkard said. "I am not surprised that we had four members of our starting lineup to be named on the All-Scholar Team. Our team is very dedicated to working hard on the golf course as well as in the classroom. They help and push each other to be the best they can be and it shows."
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative grade point average is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50 percent (Division I) of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
Brodd, a native of Knoxville, Tenn., earned the honor for the third consecutive year with a 3.50 GPA in Accounting. Lance, who hails from Franklin, Tenn., received recognition for the second straight year, boasting a 3.76 GPA in Broadcast Journalism. Millsap (Pace, Fla.) also made the team for the second year in a row and holds a 3.84 GPA in Hospitality Management. Sanders, an AJGA Scholastic Junior All-American from Rogers, Ark., made the team in her first year with the Rebels. She posted a 3.64 GPA in Business.
"You are only as good as your surrounding support team, and we are very fortunate to have a great team of academic support at our FedEx Academic Support Center," Drinkard added. "German Bello, our academic counselor, works very hard in helping our team to be successful, and we are appreciative of his attention to detail."
All four players helped the Rebels earn their second straight postseason bid this past year.
