DADE CITY, Fla. – For the second consecutive summer, senior Ericka Schneider, and partner Wendi Golden, won the Women’s Four-Ball Stroke Play Championship, carding a 10-under 134 at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club in Dade City, Fla., over the weekend
Schneider and her partner were four strokes back with five holes to play Sunday as Schneider helped lock in the win as she birdied four of the last five holes. She and her partner beat the second-place duo by one stroke.
“On Saturday we didn’t play very well,” Schneider said. “We scored alright and scored a 69 and were three strokes behind the leader. On Sunday, we knew we needed to post low numbers. We were four strokes behind with five holes to go and we just started having fun. We were taking it seriously but at the same time we were having fun and enjoyed what we were doing.”
Each person on the two-person team played their own ball on each hole but only the best ball on each hole was counted.
“We stopped thinking about how far back we were and we started to have fun,” Schneider said. “Golf is such an individual sport that it’s hard to explain this feeling so it was cool to experience that with somebody else.”
The win was the second of the summer of Schneider who also won the 2012 Women’s Stroke Play Championship July 10 in Orlando, Fla., firing a three-day total of a four-under par 212 during the three-day tournament.
