Ole Miss Rifle Sets School Record
Jan. 13, 2018

OXFORD, Miss. -- It took more than 40 hours for the Ole Miss Rifle team to get to Columbus, Ohio for their first match in 2018, but the Rebels didn't let it affect their performance Saturday, shooting a school-record 4667 at Ohio State.

The Rebels broke the previous record of 4666 fired in 2006 at the NCAA Sectional.  The team's air rifle score of 2364 was just one point off the school record set in 2012.

Ohio State finished with a 4690 to beat the Rebels. They posted a 2320 in smallbore to Ole Miss' 2303, edged the Rebels by six (2370) in air rifle.

Smallbore Results
Randi Loudin led Ole Miss in smallbore with a 578.  Jessica Haig (576), Harley Gardner (575), Abby Buesseler (574) and Emily Cock (574) rounded out the counters for Ole Miss with the top four scores contributing to the team total.

Air Rifle Results
In air rifle, Haig led all Rebel scorers with a 593.  Kamilla Kisch (592), Emily Cock (591), and Harley Gardner (589) finished out the scoring for Ole Miss.  Kisch's 592 tied her personal best. Buesseler fired a 587, but didn't count in the team total.

Josh Black, brother of former Ole Miss assistant coach Hannah Black, led the Buckeyes in both smallbore (583) and air rifle (595).

Oxford to Memphis to Dallas to Columbus
The team spent 42 hours en route to Columbus. Due to the forecast of icy weather in Memphis, the team left Oxford Thursday night.  After boarding their flight Friday morning and sitting on the runway more than an hour, they had to deplane when the airport ran out of deicer.  After a several-hour wait, the flight was cancelled and the team was rebooked on a 6 a.m. flight Saturday morning.

The team finally landed in Columbus at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and arrived at the range at 4 p.m., an hour before their match started.

Marsha's Minute
"I really have to hand it to the team," said head coach Marsha Beasley. They did so well. Everyone had a good performance in at least one event.  I'm very impressed that we could break the school record after traveling all day, grabbing a to-go sandwich at the airport and eating on the way to the range.

"JP (Lucas) and I told the team that this was a good opportunity to see how well they could do in adverse conditions.  We said to look at this match as a learning experience and do the best they could, since there are times you have to deal with things out of your control.  The girls really accepted this mindset, and I think that's what allowed them to perform as well as they did."

Randi Loudin, 578
