OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss junior Rena Goodwin shot a career-best 575 in smallbore Saturday afternoon at the Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) Championships at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center.

As a team, the Rebels finished seventh in smallbore with a score of 2286.  Junior Melissa Quartarone posted a 573, and juniors Alivia Yeager and Abbey Stanec fired a 569.

“Smallbore was ok, but I was hoping we would finish the season with a higher score,” head coach Valerie Boothe said.  “We are proud of Rena and her personal best.  It’s a good way for her to close out the season in smallbore.  We are looking forward to air rifle tomorrow, and hopefully we can shoot some higher scores and maybe some more PRs.”

The GARC is considered the top conference in Rifle with members West Virginia, Kentucky, Army and Nebraska all qualifying for the NCAA Championships.  Ole Miss (Stanec) and Memphis had individuals qualify.

West Virginia, led by individual smallbore champion, Petra Zublasing, won the team smallbore with a 2335, edging regular season GARC Champion Kentucky (2329) by six.   Nebraska finished third at 2312.

The 2013 GARC Championships will conclude Sunday with air rifle, beginning at 8:00 a.m.  The finals of air rifle will be contested at 12:45 p.m.  Admission is free.
