Rifle Takes Third At Ole Miss Invitational

OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss rifle team took third place at the Ole Miss Invitational this weekend at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center, in their second event of the 2012-13 season.  

The Rebels finished with a total aggregate score of 4628.  TCU won the invitational with a school-record 4707, and Jacksonville State recorded a 4651 for second place.  Ole Miss tallied a 2294 in smallbore and a 2334 in Air Rifle.

In smallbore, junior Melissa Quartarone notched a 579 to lead the Rebels.  Fellow junior Alivia Yeager shot a 575, senior Kim Coffey totaled a 574 and Abbey Stanec added a 566 to round out the Rebel scoring.

Yeager fired a 588 to lead the Rebels to fourth in air rifle.  Stanec shot a 587, junior Rena Goodwin a 580 and Quartarone a 579, respectively.  

“We are about where we were last year at this time,” said head coach Valerie Boothe.  “We left some points out there that we know we can get.  I’m confident that it will come together for us.”

Ole Miss is off this weekend before returning to action Oct. 20 when they host Nebraska.  The Rebels defeated Nebraska last year 4650-4610.
