OXFORD, Miss. - Junior Emma Holman fired a personal best of 587 to captured the individual title in air rifle, but it was not enough as No. 7 Army knocked off No. 8 Ole Miss 4649-4625 on Sunday.
Sophomore MaryAnn Banks led the charge for the Rebels in the smallbore shooting a total of 578. Ole Miss fell in the smallbore to the co-ed Black Knights 2315-2295.
Senior Keely Stankey and sophomore Melissa Quartarone fired matching scores of 575 in smallbore, while sophomore Abbey Stanec and junior Kim Coffey shot 567 and 566 to complete the smallbore scoring for Ole Miss.
In the air, the Rebels dropped a tight match, falling 2334-2330 to the Black Knights
Quartarone was the top air rifle scorer shooting a mark 584. Coffey and Stankey each shot 583 and Alivia Yeager and Stanec fired matching scores of 580 to round out the scoring for the Rebels.
"It was a tough match. We had some personal bests that didn't count for the team score, but it shows that we have some depth to fall back on," said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. "The team just continues to give it everything that they can, and it's hard for me to ask for much more."
The Rebels will look to bounce back from Sunday's close defeat when they travel to Lexington, Ky. to compete against a pair of GARC rivals when they take on the top-ranked Kentucky Wildcats on Oct. 21 and the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Oct. 22.
