Nov. 4, 2012
OXFORD, Miss. – The 13th-ranked Ole Miss rifle team shot an aggregate score of 4632 this weekend and beat No. 5 Murray State (4628). Jacksonville State, ranked No. 4, won with a score of 4654 at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center.
This marked the second consecutive weekend for Ole Miss to face these two teams. After dropping a close affair to both teams Oct. 27 in Murray, Ky., the Rebels rebounded to record a season-high aggregate score.
Junior Melissa Quartarone led the Rebels with a total score of 1163 including a team-high 578 in smallbore. Alivia Yeager posted an 1161, including a team-leading 588 in air rifle.
“The team came together and performed well this weekend,” head coach Valerie Boothe said. “We had some great contributions. With our new season high of 4632, we are gaining ground, but we still have work to do. We’ll hit the range this coming week to prepare for the upcoming GARC opponents.”
The Rebels travel to Morgantown, W.V. Nov. 9 and 10 to face GARC members West Virginia and North Carolina State. The Mountaineers are currently ranked No. 1 in the latest CRCA Rankings, while the Wolfpack are ranked No. 15 in the nation.
