Rebels Defeat Gamecocks

OXFORD, Miss. -The Rebels rifle team earned their fourth win of the 2017-18 season, defeating Jacksonville State University on Saturday, at the Gamecock Open. The Rebels shot a combined score of 4639 in smallbore and air rifle while the Gamecocks fired a team score of 4633 at the Gamecock Rifle Range.

Freshmen Emily Cock and Kamilla Kisch both fired a personal best 579 to lead the Rebels in smallbore. Other counters included freshman Abby Buesseler (576), senior, Jessica Haig (575) and Junior Randi Loudin (574). David Sink was the high shooter for JSU firing a 585.

In air rifle, sophomore, Hayley Carroll posted a team-leading 587. Abby Buesseler, Harley Gardner and Jessica Haig all tied at 584.  Kisch rounded out the team score with a 583.

Marsha’s Minute 

“Our overall score was not what we were looking for, but there were some bright spots,” said head coach Marsha Beasley.  It is great to see shooters turn in new personal bests and a couple of girls were just one point off their PR in one of the positions in smallbore.

“As long as we stay focused on our team goals we will continue to make progress.  We are looking forward to seeing how much further we progress next semester.”

Next Up

Right after Thanksgiving break five team members, Abby Buesseler, Emily Cock, Harley Gardner, Jessica Haig and Kamilla Kisch will fly to Colorado Springs, Colorado to compete in the 2017 Winter Air Gun Championships at the Olympic Training Center. These matches are the first of a two-part selection match for the United States Team for the World Championships.
