No. 10 Rifle Closes Fall Season At Gamecock Invitational Stanec Leads Rebels With 1166 Combined
Nov. 23, 2013
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - The No. 10 ranked Ole Miss rifle team closed out the fall season at the Gamecock Invitational Saturday in Jacksonville, Ala., shooting a 4624. The invitational concludes Sunday, so final standings will be updated then.
The Rebels began the day shooting a 2282 in smallbore and followed it up with a 2342 in air rifle.
Senior Abbey Stanec led the Rebels with a combined aggregate of 1166, including a season-high 581 in smallbore. She also shot a 585 in air rifle. Fellow senior Melissa Quartarone totaled an 1159 with a team-leading 588 in air rifle.
"I'm happy with the way the team performed," head coach Valerie Boothe said. "We are continuing to work on our smallbore, but we increased our three match scores to help qualify for NCAAs. So, we are still moving forward."
The Rebels will be off until January when the season picks back up with several home matches. Jacksonville State and Nebraska come to Oxford on Jan. 19 for a pair of matches.
