Ole Miss Rifle Opens 2018 in Ohio
Jan. 12, 2018

OXFORD, Miss. -- After an eight-week winter break, the No. 10 Ole Miss Rifle team returns to the range in Columbus, Ohio this weekend for a pair of matches against No. 9 Nebraska and No. 6 Ohio State.

Fall Season Recap...
Ole Miss posted a 4-2 overall record in the fall including Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) wins against North Carolina State, Akron and Army. Their two losses came against No. 1West Virginia and No. 3 Kentucky. The Rebels posted a season-high 4664 aggregate score in the loss to Kentucky. Senior Jessica Haig fired a personal best 595 in the match against West Virginia to lead the Rebels. Freshmen Abby Buesseler, Emily Cock and Kamilla Kisch all posted personal bests of 592 in air rifle.

Scouting Nebraska...
Nebraska finished its fall season with a record of 2-7. The Huskers posted a season-high aggregate score of 4,672 in their most recent match against Kentucky, Air Force, and Ohio State. Hannah Virga holds the team's highest smallbore score of the season going into the spring after notching a mark of 587 in this match. Dacotah Faught posted the team's highest air rifle score of the season (596) one match earlier against Kentucky.

Scouting Ohio State...
Ohio State wrapped up the fall season at the Air Force Academy, posting an aggregate score of 4686 to finish second behind Kentucky and ahead of both Air Force and Nebraska. Senior Mark Matheny posted a 596 in air rifle and sophomore Jacob Buchanan fired a 581 in smallbore to lead the Buckeyes at Air Force.

Marsha's Minute
"The team is looking forward to returning to competition," said head coach Marsha Beasley.  Eight weeks is a long time between competitions.  The mid-season break was needed, and everyone appreciated having time off and being able to go home for Christmas. The team returned to Oxford last week to resume practice and everyone has been working hard.

"I really don't know what to expect on this trip -- it's a bit like the first match of the season all over again. We made a lot of progress in the fall and I want the team to focus on executing what we've been working on.  As long as we do that we will keep learning and making progress."

Following this weekend, the Rebels will travel to Fairbanks, Alaska to face Alaska (Jan. 19) and West Virginia (Jan. 20).
