Rebels to Compete in GARC Championships

Rifle Heads to West Virginia for Final Team Event of the Year

OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss Rifle season will conclude with the Great American Rifle Conference Championships, Feb. 24-25 in Morgantown, West Virginia. Nine teams will be in attendance and are expected to bring 75 individual competitors, making the GARC Championship the largest collegiate rifle tournament in the United States.

West Virginia University is hosting GARC on a new mobile range.  The mobile range concept enables WVU to build a 26-point range in any large building, which in turn allows room for large numbers of spectators.

Schedule of Events

Friday, Feb. 23 – GARC Banquet with announcement of regular season awards

Saturday, Feb. 24 – Smallbore Competition

Sunday, Feb. 25 – Air Rifle Competition

Noting the Rebels…

Ole Miss goes to the conference championship after posting a 6-2 record and third place finish in GARC regular season competition. WVU went undefeated and Kentucky finished second. Three GARC teams: WVU, Kentucky and Nebraska earned spots in the NCAA Championship field as did individuals from Memphis (2), Navy (2), NC State, Army and Ole Miss (freshman Kamilla Kisch).

Marsha’ Minute…

“The GARC Championships should be a great learning experience for us,” said head coach Marsha Beasley. First, it will be a very different environment from what we usually shoot in.  West Virginia, having won 19 NCAA Championships has a huge following for rifle.  I expect they will have hundreds of spectators in attendance each day, more than ever seen at any rifle match in the U.S., with the exception of the Atlanta Olympics.

“Second, we will face very tough competition. In addition to WVU and Kentucky, teams ranked one and four nationally, all other GARC teams have posted scores over 4650 and seven GARC teams have posted scores above 4670.  All teams finished the season ranked nationally in the top 16.

A big match like this provides an uncommon opportunity for us to demonstrate what we have been working on and to learn and grow.”
