Marsha Beasley Named CRCA National Coach of the Year
March 12, 2018

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss rifle coach Marsha Beasley was named Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association Co-National Coach of the Year at the conclusion of the NCAA Championships.

Beasley earned the honor alongside the head coach for The Citadel, William Smith.

“I am honored to have been voted coach of the year by my colleagues,” Beasley said.  “Coach of the Year awards are really a recognition of all the hard work done by a team and the progress made. I had a wonderful team this year and we did make remarkable progress.

My assistant coach Jean-Pierre Lucas deserves much of the credit.  Without him we would not be where we are.  I really want to thank both the team members and JP.”

In two years, Beasley has transformed the program to one competing for an NCAA bid right down to the end this year.  The Rebels posted the most wins in school history with a 7-5 overall record, 6-2 in GARC and finished third in the regular season GARC standings. Ole Miss set the school record with a 4687 in the match against Alaska-Fairbanks.

At the GARC Championships, the Rebels finished fourth overall and third in air rifle. Two Rebels made the finals of air rifle with freshman Emily Cock finishing third. Jessica Haig, Harley Gardner and Abby Buesseler earned All-GARC honors.

Freshman Kamilla Kisch qualified for the NCAA Championships in air rifle.

“I am surprised to have been named both Great American Rifle Conference Coach of the Year and Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2018,” Beasley added. “To receive both awards in the same year is such an affirmation of what the team has accomplished this year and again, the progress we have made.  I am truly grateful to have the opportunity to coach the Ole Miss team and look forward to building on this year’s successes.”

The CRCA Assistant Coach of the Year award had an Ole Miss connection as well, with the award going to Rebel four-year letterwinner Rena Goodwin, now in her fourth year as an assistant coach for Kentucky. Goodwin was a four-year member of the Ole Miss rifle team from 2011-14 serving as captain her last two years. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and joined the staff at Kentucky in the fall of 2014. Goodwin helped coach the Wildcats to the National Championship this weekend.
