Five Rebels Named Scholastic All-Americans

OXFORD, Miss. ­­– Half of the Ole Miss Rifle team were recognized as Scholastic All-Americans by the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association.

In order to be considered for this honor, athlete’s must be NCAA eligible and full-time students with at least a 3.2 GPA during the fall semester.

The two newcomers to the team, freshmen Hayley Carroll and Alana Kelly, started things off strong in the classroom their first semester, as Carroll posted a 3.71 GPA in front of Kelly’s 3.35. Both athletes are working towards degrees in biology and after a successful year on and off the range, remain on track to graduate in May 2020.

Randi Loudin and Marina Noble represented the sophomore class as Scholastic All-Americans as they are working to earn degrees in engineering and integrated marketing communications. Loudin posted a 3.6 GPA along side Noble’s 3.45 GPA.

Senior Alison Weisz added Scholastic All-American to her long list of achievements during her tenure as a Rebel holding a 4.0 GPA in dietetics and nutrition for her final fall semester. With two months left of work in the classroom, Weisz holds a 3.81 GPA. This is the second year in a row for Weisz to be named a Scholastic All-American in addition to being named a Second Team All-American on the range in air rifle (a result of her 592.3 average).

The Rebels concluded their 2016-17 season at the GARC Championships as they posted a 4624, the result of a 2286 smallbore and 2338 air rifle score. Weisz earned her third straight NCAA bid and finished 11th after shooting a 594.

Ole Miss will next take the range for the Junior Olympics beginning on Friday, April 14 hosted by USA shooting in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Freshman Jillian Tyler and sophomore Harley Gardner will shoot in both air rifle and the smallbore competition, while Kelly, Carroll and sophomore Samantha Sandifer will solely compete in air rifle.
