SAN DIEGO -- The Ole Miss women's soccer team dropped its season opener Friday night to San Diego State, 2-1. The Rebels continue their California swing against Pepperdine, Sunday at 2 p.m. (CST).

In her Ole Miss debut, sophomore-transfer Kristin Chapman scored the Rebels' only goal inside the final two minutes. The Vicksburg, Miss. native joined the Rebels this season after spending 1999 at the University of Florida.

With the game scoreless at halftime, the Aztecs came out in the second behind forward Nicole Findlay, who gave SDSU the lead in the 52nd minute and secured the win with her second goal in the 73rd. The Aztecs outshot the Rebels 15-8 in the second frame and 22-11 for the game.

"It was a good game, but we just gave it away in the second half," said Ole Miss head coach Steve Holeman. "We didn't take advantage of opportunities, while San Diego State capitalized on our mistakes. They are a good team."

Junior goalkeeper Melinda Smith tallied nine saves for the Rebels, who play their home-opener against Southern Miss. Sept. 8 at 7 p.m.
