SAN DIEGO -- The Ole Miss women's soccer team dropped its season
opener Friday night to San Diego State, 2-1. The Rebels continue their
California swing against Pepperdine, Sunday at 2 p.m. (CST).
In her Ole Miss debut, sophomore-transfer Kristin Chapman scored the
Rebels' only goal inside the final two minutes. The Vicksburg, Miss. native

With the game scoreless at halftime, the Aztecs came out in the second
behind forward Nicole Findlay, who gave SDSU the lead in the 52nd minute
and secured the win with her second goal in the 73rd. The Aztecs outshot
the Rebels 15-8 in the second frame and 22-11 for the game.
"It was a good game, but we just gave it away in the second half," said
Ole Miss head coach Steve Holeman. "We didn't take advantage of
opportunities, while San Diego State capitalized on our mistakes. They are
a good team."
Junior goalkeeper Melinda Smith tallied nine saves for the Rebels, who
play their home-opener against Southern Miss. Sept. 8 at 7 p.m.
