OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss freshman Michaela Collins' goal at the 49:04 of the
second half broke a 1-1 game and propelled the Lady Rebels to a 3-1 victory
over Southern Mississippi Wednesday in Hattiesburg.
Ole Miss improves to 2-0 on the season while the Golden Eagles fall to 1-1.
Stacey Hall gave Southern Mississippi an early 1-0 advantage on a penalty
kick at the 16:58 mark. But, Ole Miss senior Amaris Weeks scored the Lady
Rebels' first goal on a header off a cross from the left corner to tie the
score at the end of the first half.
The Ole Miss defense stiffened in the second half as the Golden Eagles
were held without a corner kick and only three shots on goal.
After Collins' first collegiate goal gave the Lady Rebels the lead, Regan
Scanlon sealed the win with her fifth goal of the season at the 59:04 mark
off an assist from Jessica O'Neill.
The Lady Rebels return home to take on Southwest Missouri State on Friday,
Sept. 3, at the Ole Miss Soccer Complex. The game is slated for a 7 p.m.
