OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss soccer program will host a pair of weekend matches as a part of the Regions Bank Grove Bowl weekend on campus at the University of Mississippi.
The Rebels will play the annual Alumni Game at 7 p.m. Friday night before returning to the pitch Sunday to host the Blazers of UAB at noon.
Both games will be played at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium and admission is free to the public as the Rebels work towards the 2014 campaign.
Ole Miss is coming off one of the best seasons in school history, hosting an NCAA Tournament first round match for the first time in program history and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for only the second time. The Rebels posted a 16-win season, marking the most wins in school history.
The squad spent seven weeks ranked in the top 25, marking the longest time spent in the rankings by a Rebel team in a single season. Mott led the Rebels back into the rankings last season for the first time since the 2009 season.
Head coach Matt Mott coached a pair of Rebels to several accolades as Mandy McCalla and Rafaelle Souza were both named All-SEC and All-Region selections, while Souza was also named an All-America selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Souza also earned SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year honors.
Gretchen Harknett also became the most recent Rebel to earn All-Freshman honors from the SEC under Mott’s tutelage.
