Matt Mott Weekly Press Conference
Aug. 28, 2017

Ole Miss Soccer Head Coach Matthew Mott met with members of the media on Monday as part of his weekly press conference. Coach Mott recapped Friday’s draw with No. 23 Michigan and Sunday’s win over Lamar, and previewed this week’s home action against High Point (Friday) and Southern Miss (Sunday).

Opening Statement…
"We’re off to a good start, 3-0-1, couple good games in the opening weekend where we scored eight goals in both matches and then this past Friday took on No. 23 Michigan at home. It was a really good game, good crowd, good atmosphere, just a great college soccer game that is an NCAA level game. It was a great match as we gave up a goal early on a corner kick, and then really kind of shut them down for the next 107 minutes. We gave up a couple decent looks, but Marnie Merritt was very good in goal. Gabby Little got us equalized at the 57-minute mark and then we battled and had a couple good looks at it to win it, but overall a very good game for us. With the hurricane coming through Texas and Louisiana we had to cancel our game at Louisiana-Layfette down there on Sunday, but we were lucky enough to get Lamar to come up here and play us, so we got in the game and were able to beat them 3-0 nothing yesterday, so certainly a good start for our program. I am really happy with our back line and our defending. We have been very good back there with Liza Harbin, Ellen and Grace Johnson, Sophie (Dineen) and Chanel Thomas has played back there some. That group has been very good and solid and we are scoring some goals. CeCe Kizer is back in good form and Channing Foster has been very dangerous along with Mary (Kate) Smith. We have some guys that are getting the ball in good spots for us and we are capitalizing. Tough team for us on Friday night, we have High Point, very well coached team, very organized and very tough to break down defensively, and then we play Southern Miss who is currently undefeated on Sunday, so another in-state rivalry game that we are going to want to be prepared for."
