Ole Miss Bows out of SEC Tourney with Loss to No. 5 Seed LSU
May 9, 2018

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Ole Miss bowed out of the 2018 SEC Softball Tournament early, falling 4-1 to No. 5 seed LSU in the first round at the Mizzou Softball Stadium.

Ole Miss' (30-23) senior Kaitlin Lee made the start in the circle, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits, throwing all six defensive innings for the Rebels.

All of the scoring for LSU (41-13) came on one swing as a pair of singles and an error loaded the bases for the Tigers and Michaela Schlattman cleared them with a grand slam just beyond the wall in center field.

Ole Miss cut into the deficit in the fourth as Kylan Becker and Brittany Finney registered one-out singles before Abbey Latham legged out an infield single to bring Becker around.

The Rebels set themselves up to continue the comeback in the fifth with back-to-back singles by Kaylee Horton and Paige McKinney and a sacrifice bunt by Dylinn Stancil. However, Horton was thrown out at the plate on Elantra Cox's shallow single to center, snuffing out the threat.

From there LSU's Allie Walljasper held the Rebels in check, retiring Ole Miss in order through the final two innings to secure the win for the Tigers and end the Rebs' title defense.

Ole Miss will wait to hear its fate during the NCAA Selection Show, scheduled for Sunday, May 13 at 9 p.m. CT.
