Three Rebels Earn NFCA All-Region Honors
May 19, 2017

OXFORD, Miss. – For the second-straight year, Ole Miss softball landed three players on the NFCA All-South Region Team, as junior RHP Kaitlin Lee, junior OF Elantra Cox, and sophomore OF Kylan Becker all earned the regional honor.

Cox, the team’s leading hitter all season long, was named an NFCA All-South Region First Team selection for the second year in a row. Becker, who paved the way in SEC action, earned third team honors. Lee, most recently named the SEC Tournament MVP, also earned third team honors.

Cox, who’s on her way to rewriting the offensive record books, carried an average of nearly .600 early on in the year, and has maintained her consistency breaking the single-season hits and runs records. She leads the team with 25 multi-hit games and two longest hitting streaks in school history earlier this season of 17 and 14 games.

Becker, who finished SEC play with a .338 average, capped the regular season seventh in hits in league action. Overall, she’s maintained an average above .370, and is not far off Cox in hit totals. She’s also been a threat on the base paths with 16 steals, and has 25 RBI heading into the postseason.

Defensively, Becker showed off her range and arm from right field all season, leading the team with nine outfield assists, and has yet to commit an error.

Lee, a JUCO transfer, stepped right into the rotation and most recently became one of the biggest talks of the country. She holds a 20-10 record heading into postseason play, just three wins off tying Madi Osias’ single-season record from a year ago. She’s also just three complete game efforts off tying that single-season mark, and has already broke the record for most shutouts in a season.

Only two pitchers in school history have thrown more innings in one season, and she’s just 14 innings pitched from tying that mark. In last week’s SEC Tournament in Knoxville, Lee threw every pitch and gave up only three runs en route to tournament MVP honors.

Lee, Cox, Becker and the rest of the Rebels open postseason play Friday night in the NCAA Oxford Regional, with a scheduled first pitch of 8:34 p.m. against Southern Illinois.
