No. 6 Rebels Down Mississippi State 4-1
April 13, 2018

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Behind the doubles point and singles wins from the top three courts, the No. 6 Ole Miss women's tennis team topped Mississippi State here Friday at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre to conclude the SEC regular season on a seven-match win streak.

Ole Miss began the day by taking the all-important doubles point. Natalie Suk and Anna Vrbenska won 6-3 on court three and then Sabina Machalova and Tea Jandric clinched it with a 6-4 win on court two. They led 40-0 before the State duo tied it up. Machalova then hit a great serve that was returned out wide to hand the Rebels the 1-0 lead.

Following the doubles point, Mississippi State held its Senior Day ceremony, but the Rebels did not let the extra time stop their momentum.

Senior Arianne Hartono made it 2-0 with an impressive 6-3, 6-1 win against State's Madison Harrison at No. 1 singles. Machalova, ranked No. 80, increased the lead to 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Janina Braun on court two.

State got on the board, when Sara Lizariturry defeated Suk on court five in straights, but that would be it for the Bulldogs, as Jandric finished off MSU's Mada Agdalogldou 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles to clinch the victory.

Courtside with Head Coach Mark Beyers...
"We didn't expect anything other than a close match. They (State) have had a good year, they beat Vanderbilt, who was ranked No. 2 at the time. This a very good that we just beat. It was nice to get that doubles point. One and two singles were fairly routine and then you're just looking for one more point. Tea has been so consistent for us all year and she beat solid player at three."

On finishing the regular season with seven straight wins...
"In this league, I don't care who you are or what you are ranked, that's an impressive feat. Of those seven, five were on the road. It shows how hard our ladies have worked and battled against some hostile crowds and tough teams. They've figured out a way to win. Seven straight wins in this league is incredible."

Next up...
The Rebels will head to Knoxville, Tennessee next week for the SEC Tournament, which runs April 18-22. The draw will be announced Sunday evening once the regular season concludes.
