Hartono Advances to NCAA Singles Second Round

ATHENS, Ga. – Ole Miss junior Arianne Hartono began her NCAA Singles Championship quest Wednesday with a straight set win in the first round against California’s Maegan Manasse.

In the first ever meeting between the two All-Americans in singles, No. 27 ranked Hartono struck first, gaining an early break in the first set and closing out 34th-ranked Manasse 6-2. Hartono went up 3-1 in the second set, before both players traded breaks. Hartono got the last break to go up 5-3 and then served it out 6-3 to advance to the second round.

In Thursday’s second round, Hartono will face Miami freshman Estela Perez-Somarriba, who is ranked No. 40 with a 30-6 record. Somarriba is one of 12 freshmen in the field of 64.

• This is the 11th year in a row for the Rebels to have a representative in the NCAA Individual
• This marks the second consecutive year for Hartono to reach the second round in singles
• Hartono earned her 20th win of the year and now sits at 20-14
• Hartono also earned her 10th ranked win of the year
• Hartono will play twice on Thursday, as she and freshman Alexa Bortles begin their doubles quest against No. 17 ranked Julia O’Loughlin and Maureen Slattery of Denver
