CARY, N.C. – The Ole Miss women’s tennis team concluded play at the Duke Fab Four Invitational Sunday. All total, the Rebels won eight matches on the weekend in their first tournament of the fall.
The tournament featured an elite field with players from top-ranked teams including Texas, North Carolina, Alabama, Texas A&M, Purdue, Miami, llinois, Yale, William and Mary and Furman.
Junior Caroline Rohde-Moe, ranked No. 55 in the preseason rankings, reached the finals of the Blue Draw by downing North Carolina’s Zoe DeBruycker, ranked No. 26 in the nation, 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinals.
Rohde-Moe, who reached the finals for the second year in a row, dropped a tough 6-2, 6-4 decision to the nation’s No. 4 ranked player, Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar (Texas A&M).
Sophomores Erin Stephens and Julia Jones also competed in singles and doubles. Stephens beat Elizabeth Begley of Texas 6-1, 6-1 before losing to Sanchez-Quintanar 6-4, 6-4. Jones won one match in singles and teamed with Stephens for wins in doubles.
Freshman Marija Milutinovic made her debut and teamed with Rohde-Moe in doubles for a win. In her first round singles match, she lost to the No. 17 ranked player in the nation, Cristina Stancu, 6-3, 6-1.
