Complete Top 25 Rankings

OXFORD, Miss. --
With the season around the corner, the Ole Miss women's tennis team begins the year ranked No. 23 in the first Oracle/ITA Tennis Rankings of 2018, released Wednesday.

The Rebels return five of the top six from the 2017 season, including seniors Arianne Hartono and Natalie Suk, and boast one of the top freshmen in the country in Sabina Machalova.

"This ranking is definitely a good starting point," head coach Mark Beyers said. "We have an opportunity to prove ourselves against 11 of the top 25 teams this season, so we'll definitely find out whether we belong in the top 25, or if we should rank higher."

Hartono, set to begin her final campaign with the Rebels, is ranked No. 50 in singles and No. 13 in doubles with sophomore Alexa Bortles. The All-American is coming off a successful fall in which she won the ITA Southern Regional singles title and teamed with Bortles to finish runner-up in doubles at the ITA Fall National Championships.

Suk finished the fall ranked No. 81 and teamed with Machalova to win the ITA Southern Regional doubles title. Machalova is ranked No. 62 after a solid fall and teams with Suk for a No. 22 ranking in doubles.

Also returning is junior Tea Jandric, who ended the fall at No. 95 in singles and No. 58 in doubles with sophomore Anna Vrbenska.

A nation-leading nine SEC teams are ranked in the top 25 with three in the top five. In fact, 12 of 14 SEC teams are ranked or receiving votes.

In addition to the nine SEC teams already in the top 25, the Rebels will also face No. 25 TCU in the first round of the ITA Kick Off and either No. 16 Oklahoma State or No. 24 Arizona State in the second match. On Feb. 17, the Rebels will travel to No. 20 Baylor.

The Rebels kick off the season Jan. 13-15 at the FGCU Spring Invitational in Fort Myers, Florida. Their first dual match will be Jan. 20 at Purdue.
