OXFORD, Miss. –
The Ole Miss women’s tennis team ascended to a program-high No. 3 in the first computer Oracle/ITA ranking of 2018. The ITA also released the latest singles and doubles rankings, and several Rebels are listed.

The Rebels (7-1) are the highest ranked team in the Southeastern Conference behind National Team Indoor Champion North Carolina and Pepperdine.

“It has definitely been a fantastic start to the season,” head coach Mark Beyers said. “The ladies have worked so hard in practice and battled some great teams these last few weeks. The margins are so small, and it has been exciting to see them find a way to get four points time and time again.

“We are looking forward to playing at home this weekend in front of Rebel Nation.”

Senior Arianne Hartono moved up to No. 16 in the singles rankings after several big wins at the National Team Indoor, including beating the No. 1 ranked player at the time. Hartono has won eight straight and leads the team with a 15-4 overall record, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.

Junior Tea Jandric has won five straight and moved up to No. 58 in singles with a 6-1 dual match record. Freshman Sabina Machalova, who has clinched the last two wins, is ranked No. 115.

The Rebels boast two teams in the doubles rankings led by 10th-ranked Hartono and Alexa Bortles. The duo owns a 5-2 record at No. 1 doubles. Machalova and Natalie Suk are ranked No. 45.

In their final non-conference matches before the start of SEC play, the Rebels welcome Lipscomb and Stephen F. Austin to Oxford this weekend for a pair of matches, to begin a four-match homestand. Friday’s match begins at 2 p.m., while Saturday’s match is at 12 p.m.

Both matches will be played at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center, weather permitting. In the event of inclement weather, the matches will be played at the Ole Miss Indoor Tennis Center.
