OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss women's tennis player Gabby Rangel has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large Team for District 6, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced recently.

With her selection to the first team on the district level, Rangel is now eligible for selection to the National Academic All-America team.

Rangel graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Mississippi two weeks ago with a degree in International Studies-Economics. She will begin graduate school at the University of Kentucky in the fall.

"Gabby is an outstanding student-athlete. She has done a great job on the court and in the classroom and is very deserving of this honor," head coach Mark Beyers said. "She really embodies what a student-athlete should be."

Rangel finished her career with a 3.92 grade point average and received a Taylor Medal (highest academic honor at the University). In addition, Rangel is a soon-to-be four-time ITA Scholar-Athlete, a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Who's Who Among American Colleges and Universities and was a finalist for the SEC Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Postgraduate Scholarship.

A four-year starter and two-year team captain, Rangel helped lead the Rebels to four NCAA appearances (including Sweet 16) and the SEC West title in 2010.

To be nominated for the team, a student-athlete must have a 3.3 or better cumulative GPA and be in their second year both competitively and academically at a school. For a complete list of the CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large teams go to www.cosida.com.
